Don't Go Beyond the Wall

Malphos

By Emily McGuffPublished about a month ago Updated about a month ago 1 min read

My father told me

beyond the walls beasts roam

During the day, you are safe,

big hulking creatures being nocturnal

of course.

But when the sun cools

setting itself to sleep

behind the humongous hills,

the beasts’ hunger awakens.

They prowl

and you don’t want to catch their gaze

on account of you’re probably

just the tasty treat they’re craving.

The King Beast, their leader

is as big as a building.

His claws are black onyx,

glittering with blood in the moonlight.

His fur is thick,

tufts of black and brown and gray and green

almost invisible

within the foliage of the forest

They call him the Malphos

Ruler

Protector

of all the smaller beasts

Don’t venture beyond the wall,

he says,

unless you have a death wish.

I know this sounds weird, but that's how I felt about dolls. If I owned one, it would consume me. Now, at my ripe old age, I still hate them and won't have any in my house.
