Distance

For the time and miles in between

"Distance makes the heart grow fonder"?

No. Fuck distance.

Distance makes the heart grow weary.

Distance is waking up at 2 am in a bed you keep overflowing with pillows,

so you can make believe you're not alone.

Distance is trying to convince yourself you can be happy without them next to you, then feeling guilty when you realize

you went 5 minutes without missing them so bad you can't breathe.

Distance is missing them so bad you can't breathe.

Distance is missing them on Halloween, and Thanksgiving, and Valentine's Day, and your anniversary, and you finishing your first year of college, and your birthday, and and and...

Distance is reassuring your friends that you're doing "just fine",

that you're not thinking of anyone else, or of giving up just because it isn't convenient anymore.

Distance is wanting to savor every precious second you get together,

but having panic attacks while you should be celebrating

because all you can think about is how soon they'll have to leave you again.

You wanna know what really makes the heart grow fonder?

Two hearts, willing to shatter themselves over and over, every day they're apart. Never giving up, never losing faith, because they know-

When they finally come back together for good,

there will be nothing left in the world that could tear them apart.

No obstacle more formidable, than that asshole

Distance.
