Digging Holes

I dug a hole.

I had difficulty climbing out.

Why do I do this to myself?

*

I dug a hole.

I barely managed to claw myself out.

The next time, I’ll try to take more care

*

I dug a hole.

I got stuck in the quagmire.

Luckily, a friend reached in to lend a hand.

*

I dug a hole.

It was too deep for my own good.

A kind soul lowered a ladder.

*

I dug a hole.

I got stuck in the bottom.

Someone lowered a rope for me to climb out.

*

I dug a hole.

I was buried in filth.

Many worked to set me free.

*

The next time I dig a hole,

I’ll plant a tree.
