Depression

Simply stated

Depression. A hole we fall into.

A random thought.

A period placed neatly before we’re finished.

A tear.

The sound of nothing.

A door opening and no one there.

Depression. Joy lost on

A neighboring street.

A package delivered when we

weren’t here. Returned to sender.

A hope mugged.

A passion extinguished.

People laughing and told to stop.

A child not listened to.

Sigh. Breathe in. Blink.

Wipe away tears. Resist the ache.

Kick the door. Make a fist.

Look toward God. Write a list.

Make tea.

Stand, hands by your side.

Feel it.

Say goodbye. Take it back.

Breathe. Expletive noted.

Refrain from thinking.

Breathe again.

Think of tomorrow. Nod.

Scream into a paper bag.

Throw it away.

Depression. A hole we fall into.

Then climb out of.

Shake a hand.

Accept a hug.

Forgive yourself.

Start again.
