Dear Jada

- Samuel’s Thoughts the Blog

On the eve before her memoir is set to be released, it's only right that I share my thoughts on Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada Pinkett Smith is an actress, writer, mother, and wife. However, as of lately, she's only been linked to being a toxic, narcissistic, emotional abuser.

I remember growing up and looking at the Smiths, thinking that's how families are supposed to be - successful, talented, and together. I personally once admired the love Will and Jada had and the family structure and connection. Growing up in inner cities, that's not something that's seen a lot in the black community. They were a lot of people's first sign of black excellence in a family structure.

But as time went on, things started to get weirder between the Smiths. The world, I'm sure, has been following for years these "bombshells" she's been dropping from her Red Table Talk show, from news interviews to social media posts. I am a firm advocate for the fact that all relationships will have problems, and you have to work through them. I just don't think everything should be as public as she has allowed it to be.

The humiliation and emasculation she has done to her husband really is beyond me. Whether they are on speaking terms or not, why? Why so much information to the public? The public disrespect of her, such as her infatuation with Tupac, which she reminds us of every second of the day, and her random interviews and articles about her and Will's marriage and issues... I just don't get it.

I've come to realize that this is a woman who loves attention more than she cares about her family's image and, most importantly, her husband's image and feelings. I read Will's memoir not too long ago, and yes, he spoke about some highs and lows, as everyone has the right to do so because it's their life. But it wasn't the focal point. It seems as if Jada, for whatever reason, has to focus on "bombshells" to keep her name in the media and relevant. And this time was no different when she revealed on her book tour that her and Will have been separated for more than 7 years. This caused so many questions, such as Will's infamous physical altercation with Chris Rock, with many asking: wow, if he weren't an A-list actor, he would be canceled and have his whole career thrown away in a heartbeat due to his physical assault, over a woman who is on tour bashing him in one sentence and then saying she loves him in another?

Putting Will Smith aside, I think Jada really needs emotional and psychological help. This is not normal. It's beyond public humiliation to her family's name, and now the question arises: is she mentally and emotionally okay? I hope they can work through their marriage issues and fix their problems. If they can, they can. If they can't, they can't. Either way, I think this tour of bashing her family's legacy and name needs to come to an end.
