Dear Bipolar - a Poem
An open letter in rhyme to my disorder.
Dear Bipolar,
Here's a letter
Words of dolor
Seeking better
-
You play a game
Switch night and day
Distort the frame
Chase love away
-
You cause voices
Scream in my mind
Limit choices
Spew thoughts unkind
-
You hide the truth
Behind thick veils
Cause me to sleuth
Wander dark trails
-
You tell me lies
Pretend they're facts
Connect with ties
Tragic impacts
-
You make me doubt
All that is me
Push reason out
Tell me to flee
-
You strum on fears
Anxiety
Ending the years'
Sobriety
-
You make me want
To end the fight
Give up the jaunt
Slip into night
-
But I'm the man
Who never quits
Proves what I can
With fights and fits
-
I hold to hope
Know you can't win
Laugh, cry, and cope
Repent of sin
-
One battle lost
Never the war
I pay the cost
Get off the floor
-
I prove to all
What can be done
You will fall down
Then stand and run
-
I raise my fist
Shout my decree
Leave you this list
Sincerely, Me
-
Living with mental illness is a constant battle, but one you can win. Never surrender and never give up.
Until next time, keep fighting.
