Distraction

Dalilah is a bright and eager child, who lives in a palace of sapphires and iron.

Idly she roams the rows and rows of books, unable to still the chaos within her.

She seeks solace in her studies but finds imperfections.

The crown she must bear, heavy upon her.

Reaching for a tale that could take her away.

A welcomed reprieve from her lacking.

Caught in the web of her own distraction, she fails to notice

the approaching footsteps and the shuffle of

ivory skirts.

Outreached jewelled hands wait patiently for the princess.

Insistent upon Dalilah's return to earth.

"No more daydreaming", a soft voice demands and like a star that is falling, Dalilah lands.
