Dawn

All the reasons I love the early morning.

As the sun gently awakens to kiss the darkness away,

Colors yawn and come to life

Gently at first, with timidity of a young dawn

But then with a bravery born of warmth and brilliance,

They greet me.

Peace. Quiet. Calm.

And then…

Birds arise, peering out of nests and holes.

Joyfully, they raise their praise to the morning

And to their creator.

Blending in harmony, occasional solo-singers,

Rhythmic banter with no lyrics

They sing

The world opens up like a flag unfurled

As it is lifted into the air

For all to see

“Behold,” it calls “Look and see

This new day! Make something of it!”

And I do.
