it's that feeling of being on the edge

being afraid of falling

ashamed, thinking i might be too heavy to handle

still hoping to be caught, in your arms

wondering if i am strong enough to catch you, too

wanting to be, at the very least

telling myself i am even though i don't really know

but i want it to be true

because we dance around, 'i love you'

i won't see another way until this one has no hope

and i am holding my breath

and i am waiting for your text

and all the dread i feel when i realize i never finished telling you goodnight

and you are so close but the journey is daunting

i am bound to stumble and trip over my over stringless shoes

step on my own toes, and go nowhere

i want you to know my sordid past, my highs and lows

that's how i try to tell you i know how that feels

and i don't feel that way with you

because we dance around, 'i love you'

that you incite a different fire in my heart

a heat that is confusing and exciting, unquestioningly familiar

because we dance around, 'i love you'

because we don't know if the other one does

because i will, still, even if you don't

but i don't want you to know that i want you to know that.

because we dance around, 'i love you'
