The giant slumbered
A fallen beast lingering
Along the horizon line,
A brilliant white trunk
Standing against the greenery,
Weather worn and waiting,
In an in-between state
Awaiting the next moment,
Where souls return to soil
And friendly roots
Re-absorb used nutrients-
Memories and tales stores
To be relinquished into the world
Caught in a soft breeze
Blowing through tangled hair
To awaken thoughts
As it whispers in ears,
Of a world long ago,
Carrying the whistle of workers
Of walkers on their way,
Passing a standing oak
That they watched grow by day
And who watched them in peace,
Until they faded and new arrived
A generation following in place
Who moved faster and further
A progression towards something
Unknown
While the natural beast towered
Continuing its climb
Towards a sky ever waiting
Until again the earth came
Swallowing whole-
But in its place
A new generation prepares,
Giving pause to passing by.
