Celebrating friends, family, and country

The alluring smell of the barbeque

Tickles the thick air on this July 1st.

“One burger, please, actually, make that two

And one bottle of beer to quench my thirst.”

---

I dab at the ketchup staining my shirt,

Briefly scanning the tables crammed with food,

All I think about is what’s for dessert?

Those ice cream sandwiches are a whole mood.

---

Excitement builds, we gaze up at the sky,

We hoot and we howl for Canada Day,

Bright red and white lights exploding up high,

May this revelry never fade away.

---

United faces and bliss surround me,

Endless hope, a glorious sight to see.
