A Limerick Poem
Cora has a recipe book
She used it all the time to cook
She cooks for hours
Her husband devours
And swiftly turns it into poop

A limerick is a humorous five-line poem with just one stanza. Limericks have an AABBA rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm. The subject matter of a limerick is often whimsical and funny.
Limericks all follow the same structure and pattern which sets them apart from other poetic forms and makes them easily identifiable.
- A limerick consists of five lines arranged in one stanza.
- The first, second and fifth lines must rhyme and have 7 to 10 syllables.
- The third and fourth lines must rhyme and only have 5 to 7 syllables.
- The rhythm of a limerick is anapestic, which means two unstressed syllables are followed by a third stressed syllable.
- The first, second, and final line each have three anapests—da dum da da dum da da dum.
- The third and fourth lines have two anapests-—da dum da da dum.

Crisp Valleys
Louise Crisp says: she grew up in a hard country, meaning she was free to wander. I say: I grew up in a soft country meaning, I was free to wonder. The rainforest mountains sheltered me with nurturing undulation. A tanned kelpie followed my scent upstream. We ate from tropical fruit trees with abundant exoticness. Swelling rivers often left gullies full of water. The music was as consistent as the rain. Even the cicadas had a rhythmic purpose. In the creek corners, we hunted crystals. The canopy was my home and was anything but silent. With nothing but harmonies, even in the pitch-black dark, I never felt alone. How else can I explain rainforest-dwelling?

The Bear Witness of Climate Change
The congressional environmental committee had been engaged in deep debate over climate change; the democrats were determined to lower America’s dependency on fossil fuels, while the republicans insisted on their Trumpian position to protect the use of coal and oil. Suddenly the lockdown alarms blared wildly throughout the building. The senators waited patiently for an announcement through the PA system on what the possible threat is, but the intercom produced static in response. The committee fell into a wordless atmosphere with fear replacing the heat of the debate. No one dared to speak.
