Comfortable Chemistry

A Disguise and a Barrier

By Poppy Published about a year ago Updated 8 months ago 1 min read

We met when Spring

Was fading into Summer

A time when the days were

Growing longer

My skin becoming thicker

And you were growing

A kind of cocoon around yourself

Awkward moments slowly

Turned into a comfortable chemistry

Your presence stopped taking

My breath away and instead

Eased oxygen into my lungs

With a gentleness that

Softened my smile

Spring’s flowers

Are giving way to

Summer’s sun yet again

And I still crave you

Like a heartbeat but

Now it is with a kind

Of patience and acceptance

Rather than a fierce ache

You look at me expectantly and

I let words tumble towards you and

Wonder if you know the pointless sentences

Are all just a disguise and a barrier for the

Most overused and under-meant

Words in the whole world

-I love you
