Come back to me,

Sweet streak of blue

Blotting out the dark night sky.

Lay your weary head upon the

Horizon gone jet black.

Lord have mercy,

I can taste you

Cuddling on the back of

My tongue beside something bitter

And so terribly familiar that I

Cannot believe I’ve now

Forgotten it entirely.

It is a void.

Where you lived

And fucked and laughed

Is a void so utterly untouchable

I can do nothing but scream

As it creeps forward

Deep inside me,

Where you

Once

Danced with

Such rebellion

That even I managed

To fall for a man more shade,

More myth, more dream, than real.

A dreamer’s easy mistake

Now twice paid for.

I can smell you

On the edges

Of my midnight

Soul caught dreaming

About the days where the

Moon never seemed to sleep.

The lies tasted like the truth then

And you of starlight and smoke,

My cigarettes, your lips.
