Open Your Eyes

What color am I

When you open your eyes

I used to be blue

Like a warm July sky

When you felt alone

You’d let me right in

Cherished and open

And warm on your skin

But your eyes are closed

I'm the back of your lids

Black as a hole

And I wish you'd forgive

What color am I

When you open your eyes

How do you know

If you won’t even try

Let me be red

Red like a rose

I'll provide comfort

Like sand on your toes

Let me be trees

Vibrant and oh so green

And don't wake me up

If this is a dream

I count when you’re away

Seconds like sheep

I lie my head down

Fall again like sleet

I start to turn white

Become like snow

A blank canvas

Empty and exposed

Grab your brush

And dip it in dye

What color am I

When you open your eyes
