The words, “Display-only not meant for use.”

Bordering your casing.

You, who experience extended periods of darkness,

Interrupted and flashed with a harsh light,

For brief inspections intended solely to confirm you're still available.

While you gaze through the glass window

They keep buffed,

So you can see yourself clearly

Never being touched.

Not realizing that the light they have on you,

Was never a spotlight,

But a leash to ensure you stay still and upright.

Yet you smile back like you’re unaware

That you’re covered in dust.

Afraid that if you falter

They throw you away

And find a replacement to stand on your “altar”.

This notice serves as a warning:

Extended shelf placement may lead to

Emotional stagnation,

Diminished self-worth,

And the false belief that being chosen

Is the same as being catered to and used.

This notice does not require compliance.

It is a reminder

That you’re no collector’s item

And you were never meant to stand on a shelf.
