Christmas Bells
A Christmas poem of hope
No one was thinking of Christmas bells that year
All the neighbors were busy decorating their houses
With lights and Santas and reindeer
Climbing ladders and commenting
That the house next door didn’t look as great
The street looked like a carnival
Every house brightly shone
Pastor Davis let out a sigh
Where was the true meaning of Christmas?
This year the neighbors were worse than last
Suddenly the Pastor had a great idea
It was Christmas Eve
So he hurried to his church on the hill
He worked hard to be ready for Christmas Eve midnight mass
The neighbors continued to argue and comment
Soon every light was lit and every Christmas tree decorated
Everyone went about saying theirs was better than the rest
But what the Pastor had prepared would be the best
At midnight everyone the young and the old
Climbed up the hill for the annual midnight mass
Pastor Davis didn’t tell them they were wrong
He just said Christmas was more than lights and glitter
When service was done
And the church bells had rung
Everyone was preparing to go down the hill
When a joyous sound was heard
The Pastor had attached a stereo system
And Christmas songs could be heard
The neighbors stood together as one
And began singing
The pastor’s wife handed out candles
And soon there was a bright light
Upon the hill by the church
They all sang as one
Standing looking at the sky
When big flakes of snow began to fall
And they all wished one another
The greatest Christmas of all!
