Children's Dreams

Cruel reality and adulthood

Don’t laugh openly

In his face

You were just as naive one day

Maybe yesterday

He doesn’t know any better

He hasn’t seen

The red letters

So you think his dreams

Will just fade away

With time and reason

And the changing of the seasons

He will mature and grow

The sooner the better

He knows

To stop wishing upon a star

Or else he won’t

Make it very far

First he’ll dream of outer space

And when you laugh in his face

He will settle for a life down below

He wants to help sick people

You tell him his heart is too feeble

And then he doesn’t

Speak to you anymore

He’ll try to live on love

But the city’s full of pigeons

Not doves

And he’ll be lost once more

Kick his lover to the curb

Try to cover up the hurt

With makeup and parties galore

But his chipped nail polish

Leaves him feeling smallish

And he’ll wonder why he bothers anymore

When all the world sees is a whore

His young life will be cut down

In his sorrows he will drown

When all he wanted was

To be heard

Look into the crystal ball

Ignore that you’re his downfall

So you’ll still laugh in his face

Fake cry at his wake

A parent’s worst nightmare?

How absurd

sad poetry
