A poem about writing

Rum bottles,

Wine bottles,

A few beer cans,

Packets of cigarettes,

An ashtray that’s full of butts,

And a list that grows longer and longer but must end.

{

You can’t see or hear the music but that’s there.

You can’t watch the thoughts personally but you’ll

Be able to witness the aftermath. You can

Repat it too if you like it so much.

[

If So-So let me over, or said yes to the

Topless joint I wouldn’t have written anything tonight.

Is that a blessing for me or for you?

I get to sit at this desk, in this garage, with

This machine and this paper doing what I do naturally.

Starting with rum bottles, wine bottles, a few

Beer cans, too many cigarettes, and that inevitable

Final line.

{

It goes from another day another dollar

To another night another nickel

And one more lucky penny.
