Blue Jays

For when you were in love for the first time

There was a fire

In holding your heart close

Like a touch of fingers to my cheek

There was a freedom

In wrapping up in you

That soared when I was lying still asleep

A static sparkle

When you smiled 'cross the room

That travelled through the air and hit me hard

Nobody else

Ever had me so enraptured

That games did not appeal; I'd fold my cards

My heart sang freely

When you spoke to me with joy

Explaining all the things you loved today

I was a blue jay

Whenever our lips met

My home wherever that you flew to stay
