The earth sings
The songs of past,
Lessons to learn
And values to hold,
To those who listen,
Who take the time
And pause before destruction,
Offering of change
Of growth and new,
As human fingers dig deep
Filling nails with dirt
And roots.
If you listen well,
Happiness is unlocked
The truth in being,
As we struggle with
Day to day existence,
With the plan of moving
Forward and up, up, up
Despite the Earth’s insistence
We remain among the trees
And chase the stars and moon,
That we listen to the ocean sing
And feel sand between toes.
We continue to cut and trim,
Crying out about
The erasure of flora and fauna
As if we didn’t know,
As if we didn’t see,
As if we didn’t expect
A consequence for our actions.
Spoiled children we sit beneath a sun
And wait for it to implode,
Instead of correcting the disaster
We created for ourselves.
Sorry Mother.
