Autumn's Tribute

Dead Leaves- Day 2 Challenge by Chloe Rose

The wind breathes its chilly air,

a light gust to prompt a scare

rustling trees as it weaves

through the blackened, dead leaves

*

Their corpses gather on the ground

swept up to spin round and round

They move as if they've gained wings

relishing what this freedom brings

*

Carried far from their roots

they rest upon new grass in groups

settled together in a foreign field

nature's way of giving yield

*

The price Autumn has to pay

tribute of necrosis and decay

Earth accepts and receives the tithes

a fitting burial for the dead leaves

*

This was a poem inspired by Chloe Rose's "Writing Prompts for October" challenge. Day 2: "Dead Leaves"

Wow, I absolutely love this! Autumn is my favorite season, and you captured why. Yes, it’s spooky and morbid with Halloween and the death of nature, but there’s such “freedom” in shedding the past and starting anew. “Their corpses gather on the ground swept up to spin round and round They move as if they've gained wings relishing what this freedom brings” Just beautiful.

  • This was beautiful ❤️ Thann you for sharing!

  • Those mini-cyclones--dust devils--lifting & swirling the Autumn leaves above the ground--I've always loved them. And the mulch they offer.... Lovely poem, Brin.

The great thing is that these dead leaves act as fodder for the new leaves to feed on. It is the circle of life. Great poem.
