Asylum

Poem

Asylum

She frolics through the asylum

With scars across her arms and face

The other patients aren’t smiling

And they’re looking for escape

She laughs as she paints blood on the walls

Cryptic messages pull tricks on inmates

Their minds are aglow with wonder

The program is filled with hate

She looks out the window at the park nearby

A little girl at play peers back

Jealousy sparkles in her eye

Glancing into freedom she lacks

The drugs will evade her brain

She falls to sleep

Dreams of a perfect world

She sees the little girl at play

The little girl breaks her bones

At the hand of her father's fist

She falls asleep and dreams of a different home

The asylum is at the top of her list

Jealousy sparkles in her eye

heartbreak
How does it work?
