As It Was

Before The Otherness Came

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago 1 min read

I buried those ashes,

long since, after the flames

danced in shadowy flashes

gave you back your name

*

disposed of the flowers

threw them away

took a look in the mirror

and recollected my face

*

I may never fully know

that connection of souls

I thought, was us, all those years ago

but your love, left nothing, but a large, gaping hole

*

leaves me sinking to the bottom

while hope and dreams float

like the leaves change in autumn

they know when to let go

*

as did I, collected courage, made my getaway

not knowing how far I'd fall

penetrated by your betrayal

with no aid or backup to call

*

beginning again, this time, wide awake

learning to learn from the past

forgiving myself for my many mistakes

and living life for me, at last
