apple on the tree

a delicious treat

By angela hepworthPublished 4 months ago Updated 4 months ago 1 min read
Top Story - April 2024

a reaching hand clasps

around the apple on the tree

and lowers it to me

my heavy wooden basket

clenched in both my fists

aching in my wrists

weigh the apples here

my dad’s pale goes pale

mom laughs at the cost

pay the man and bail

driving in the car

headed to our home

apples on my lap

mom is on her phone

talking to my grandma

about pies and treats

applesauce and sweets

to make with these round

red yellow and green

fruits on which i lean

captured in my basket

captured from their trees

coming home with us

coming home with me

  • Delightful Top Story!🤩 As a teenager, we visited my uncle’s orchard… every apple we picked was dripping with juice! Your poem inspires me to include my experience in a story or poem, sometime 🙃

I really enjoyed the innocent tale in this. The jaunty meter of it works really well and adds to the lightness. Lovely stuff.

I remembered the days when we lived in the hostel and picked the half-ripened mangoes to make their jam and sauce. And you again created a natural family environment along with an apple basket. I liked your writing style. So, I subscribed to you.

  • Beautifull poem❤️

Apple picking in someone's orchard...priceless. When my kids were young, I read to them about Johnny Appleseed....his mission was a legacy we all still enjoy!

  • Mmmm, apple pies! Loved your yummy poem!
