An Ode to the 87

miles of matazals

The sides of a mountain range waits.

Waits for what? It does not know.

Rugged terrain is its face of granite, clay, and minerals.

It sees the Hohokam and Salado people, as they make their way south to tame the Salt.

It sees pioneer settlers make their way north, ranching and riding through the manzanitas.

It sees the discovery of it's secrets, silver, quartz, and mercury hidden.

It sees roads and trails cut into the granite, clay and minerals.

It sees Zane Grey, a writer without a purpose, find his beloved Mogollon Rim.

It sees the construction of a highway and management of forest lands, rivers, and creeks.

It sees the wrath of mother nature, filled with fires and floods.

The sides of mountains, they wait. For what? It is unknown.
