An early morning sunrise
The first light of the day
It was a sight so mesmerizing
In my heart I wanted to stay
But time doesn't stop
So on I must go
To do the tasks that have been planned
The joy and thrill of what awaits
In me had planted a seed
This morning sun shines down so bright
Welcoming the start of the day
A reminder of a promise
That tomorrow will bring
A time to step away and play
May each moment I take today
Be filled with beauty and light
To carry me forward through each step
And lead me towards what's right

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
