Always “Home”

Always “Home”

Strolling down the dirt path,

One she’d never ventured before,

A surprising scent dazed her.

The faintest perfume of lavender cradled her.

Nostalgia hitting with such intensity,

It reminded her of yesterday…

Days spent playing in the meadow behind her parents’ house,

And lavenders, limitless amounts of them.

A sudden feeling overcoming her,

Glowing and spreading in her chest.

Continuing her stroll,

She studied her surroundings,

Observing the branches,

As they danced along the crisp autumn breeze,

Their colors changing from green to yellow, orange and red.

Birds chirping away, going about their business,

Unbothered by her presence.

The rays of daylight seeping through the spaces,

Offering her some warmth on this chilly day.

She breathed in a profound breath,

As mini droplets created a misty effect as she breathed out.

The sight making her smile,

Thinking back to when she was a child,

The autumn her parents had brought her to the cottage.

Warm beverage in hand at the brisk of dawn,

The misty cloud visible from the condensation,

Making the world that much more mysterious and alluring.

She began to recall…

Her fathers’ smile,

As they had sat together sharing old tales.

The way her mothers’ voice had always been soothing to her.

A deep yearning flourishing,

An epiphany waking within her.

Though far from home,

Reminiscing these significant bits,

The ones that made up her life,

She understood…

If she grasped onto the memories,

The pieces that made her life whole,

Wherever she might wander,

“Home” would always be close by.
