All-Zenith

an abecedarian poem

Atticus has been unwilling to join them,

Both sides have declared war,

Calling for the destruction of a single man,

Denying him any comfort or joy,

Engaging in argument and derisiveness,

Father giving up his son as sacrifice,

Gratitude, not for the sacrifice endured,

Hope persisted, refusing defeat,

Inculcated to ride each skirmish,

Justice, looking for a way to prevail,

Kicked aside and jeered at each attempt,

Lambasted for wanting something more than hate,

Mocked for looking, being, acting different,

No one should be derided for who they love, how they feel,

Opened arms, not arms of war will be the victor,

Peace is not just a symbol, a lyric, two fingers held high,

Questions of motive sully the intent of the sincere,

Ridiculed for believing it is possible to rise above,

Scorn is the product of a scorched earth,

Today can be, will be different without decree,

Unveiling good is a gift given without cost,

Victory is in a hug, a smile, saying, “I love you,”

Will, is it free? Or have we been robbed of it?

Xylocarp is no more a forbidden fruit than an apple,

You, me, us should not vilify the gifts of nature,

Zenith of the Universe is our reward for kindness.
