Absolution

A poem

It's all just too familiar.

The guilt where she rests her head.

They say her faults don't merit it,

Yet she lives in sorrow and dread.

A soldier's job is never done,

She must take the reigns.

Forgive herself for the things she's done.

The punishment exceeds the pains.

Compare them to a criminal,

you'll see they don't contrast.

Still, she replays each one of them.

Prays to God the thoughts won't last.

A stolen heart, a drunken night,

Pills to numb the hurt.

Spoken words of anguish linger,

and with death she'll often flirt.

Show her a list of her triumphs,

she'll still say she doesn't deserve,

The grace that God has given her

She puts that in reserve.

For a day when she can pay her debt,

to bad karma she's saved up.

She'll push it away, not excepting,

good karma that fills her cup.

She prays to God, she reads her book,

one that's not been written.

She thinks she's right, that she can't drain,

the poison where she's been bitten.

Until the day, while in distress,

God had finally pardoned,

her childish sins, her broken trust,

A mold which has long since hardened.

Give it up, let it go.

We know your heart rings true.

That's enough, let it be.

We've told you through and through.

You're worth more than you think,

For us, oh please just try,

To bury all your heartache,

Then spread your wings and fly.

“It's never too late to change your ways, just look how far you've come.

Now forgive yourself, your long overdue. The war, my dear, you’ve won.

Forgive yourself, forgive what's passed, battles jumble the resolution.

Rest easy my child, your life has just started.

For you've been granted Absolution.”

Give it up, just let go.

You know your heart rings true.

That's enough, let it be.

We've told you through and through.

You're worth more than you think,

You no longer need to try.

Put to rest that heartache,

spread your wings,

and fly.

Open wide those angelic wings,

take a deep breath......

and fly.
