Abandoned, Fallow Land
Thirsting for a Drop of Love
Estranged, alone
Plentiful solitude,
Cavernous hunger for need
Left insatiable and starved
Grows its poisonous weed
Fueling need with venom
Anguish with despondency
A fallow ground, infertile
A soul lacking warmth
Emotions, feelings, nothing tactile
Forsaken vows, wither a sacred love
A Bond remiss in its promise
Left craving intimacy’s embrace
Thirsts day and night
Pledges, unquenched, abase
A spirit, half of a soul
Craves its other’s attention
Left wanting and yearning
To soul-deep desperation,
Pining its waking hours stirring
Hope hangs on its gossamer strands
Pining away for estimation,
Remains sadly, unrequited
A desert seeking drops of rain
So long in its drought, abided
Love in languid repose
Refused fire and passion,
Turning to ash without flame
Bereft, abandoned and broken
Continually unwanted, another lays claim
Watering unquenched desire,
Another soul will sate this longing
Esteem and covet what another rejects
Take for itself, care, love its conquest
Refusing to abandon love to neglect
Left alone and dejected
Embracing any eagerness, a token
Love accepts attentive ministration
A drop of water in its parched barrenness
Accepting a drink without hesitation
Left to days and nights of desolation
Laid waste in sorrow and reclusion,
Love seeks its recompense in payment
Reciprocating love for love given
It cannot remain in a void, vacant
A barren land produces nothing
Fertile soil, a garden, an Eden
Sweet, heady-smelling is its bouquet
Love, revered, protected as precious
Thrives, grows deeper, not astray
