A Woman, A Girl and Me

I Am Me

A woman, a girl

A fragile person

To be protected

Dimmed and rested

//

This is the view

The world has of me

Never asking, wondering or basking

In what I think of me or them

//

The me I feel is so much more

Than skirts and rings and lore

The me that writes

And thinks and waits

//

For days of honesty

Kindness and light

Knowledge of plight

And genderless rights

//

The me I feel is so much more

Than qualities defined in war

Than a single gender’s core

Than a hetero or a whore

//

I am not merely just a wife

A daughter or a reproductive vice

I am a partner, child and person with rights

I am myself, under all the lights
