In the field of battle, a soldier lay,

His lifeless body was cold and gray.

He fought with all his might and will,

But now he lies, forever still.

*

His comrades gather, heads bowed low,

For a fallen soldiers, they mourn and show

Their respect for the sacrifice he made,

A price for freedom, a debt repaid.

*

He was a hero, brave and true,

Fighting for what he believed was due.

His spirit now soars, to the great beyond,

Leaving behind memories, sweet and fond.

*

He dreamed of coming home one day,

To be with family, in a peaceful way.

But fate had other plans in store,

And now his loved ones, hearts are sore.

*

The flag is draped, upon his casket,

A symbol of life lost in the racket.

Of war and violence, and the cost it brings,

A reminder of the sacrifice of those in wings.

*

Rest in peace, brave soldier, and rest well,

For you have earned a place in heaven's swell.

We'll remember you always, with honor and pride,

And cherish the freedom, for which you died.
