A Single Glance

A Love Poem

A lifetime that passed in a single glance

But one I’d live again if given the chance

For her I’d trade it all

For I had already begun to fall

Deeper and deeper into her trance

Standing struck in awe

At the beauty that I saw

A flawless figure in my way

A moment that spanned an entire day

What I would give for her to stay

There were no words beyond perfection

No heart and mind more pure

Any of my human infections

Her soul would be able to cure

So who was I to ruin her with defection

A single glance

But if I had another chance

I doubt I’d try a different dance

I feared how it’d all go wrong

And in a moment, she was gone

Now I know she was what I wanted all along

A single instant, was that her role

To place a mark on my very soul

And gift me with a never-ending hole

I saw the light

But it burned too bright

And I was scarred by the sight

Every girl, every crowd can’t compare

None can replace her majestic stare

A single glance

That was my only chance

Now I stand, frozen in freefall

Wondering if she ever existed at all
