A Simple Fall of Rain
A meditation on a summer's moment past
A simple fall of rain, a picnic stalled;
The summer's day oppressive in its heat,
Where once upon a blanket, we had sprawled,
Within a green that nestled in concrete.
How bright your laugh, we gathered things and ran!
And running with you, rain fell all about;
It was a day when nothing went to plan,
A simple fall of rain in summer's dought.
Soaked head to toe, I did not feel it fall;
Not in that moment, running there with you.
Lost in that moment, I cannot recall,
A simple fall of rain I barely knew.
These summers hence, no moment, perfect, plain,
Can match the smell, the rush, that fall of rain.
