A Poem To An Alien
Welcome to our world
Sir,
One thing that embodies the beauty, wonder, and quirks of our planet.
Is the eight billion people who live, work, rest, and play on it.
We come in all shapes, sizes and color
Some of us are rich and many live in squalor
And all of us are chasing the almighty dollar
The ones with the money wear a shirt, tie, and collar
The rest of us have to cry, make do, and holler
The really clever ones study life and become scholars
The beauty of our kind is in the eyes of the beholder
Some think our beauty disappears as we get older
The wonder of it all is that we have ever survived
When other species like dinosaurs took a bit of a dive
Although it is believed that at one time they thrived
Now some scientists in a film are trying to revive
The lives of the beasts that used to eat us alive
As for what some like to call our distinguishing quirks
Well our world seems happy to accept insufferable jerks
We have tried very hard to get rid of them all
But they rise to the top and are having a ball
You see they run the planet
And everything on it
They own it all lock, stock, and barrel
With the smirk of a jerk wearing expensive apparel
Please don't judge us too harsh for our fools
We do our best to not bend too many rules
Meanwhile, I must say
At the end of the day
We are perfectly imperfect, and perish the thought
They say we're a bit quirky
Now, how would you like some ice-cream beef jerky?

It's a lovely and inspiring piece! Good luck with the contest.
A fun and insightful read. Liked the "smirk of a jerk" that's a nifty phrase. 😊
Excellent poem. All the social challenges redeemed by beef ice cream. Great ending.
Great poem, Ralph! Loved this, and much truth weaved throughout. Your ending was simply perfect!
https://vocal.media/poets/hello-ralph 8 hours later it was finally published!!! I thought it would take minutes (as always) which is why I held off writing a comment this morning 🙈🙈🙈 I thought it would be fun to send this link with it. Better late than never I guess!! I loved your poem!
