A Nostalgic Childhood Memory of Home

As the sun sets on the horizon, the bush is all I see,

The galahs and cockatoos settle in the trees,

The Kookaburras laugh in the evening breeze,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

The city lights disappear and all I see is land,

bare, flat, beautiful, land, filled with red dusty sand.

The path welcomes me, beckons me back,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

The music in my head plays country road on repeat,

I follow my heart and it carries my tired feet,

Finally, I am at the front door I know so well to greet,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

Past the pictures on the wall and the kitchen smelling of roast,

Down the hall that whispers games from a childhood ghost,

The sun streams through the open verandah that I love most,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

Then there they are... sitting by the pool with ease,

Laughing, eating, and wrestling as brothers tease,

The BBQ sizzles, its aroma mouthwatering in the summer breeze,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

The dog snores happily curled up by my sister's side,

Mum fusses over each of her children like an ocean tide,

I close my eyes to draw it all in, the feeling, the warmth, the love is wide,

And I get that nostalgic childhood memory of home.

Now I am grown, we have moved, and our house has been sold,

My siblings and I all have our own families and I start to feel old,

But when we are all together in one place we still hold,

the love and history of that nostalgic childhood memory of home.
