A Moment of Light
(a poem about the little things)
The cat
Lazing in the sun,
A stripe of honey gold
Painting his face as he drifts
In and out of sleep.
To feel the warmth he must feel,
To find comfort in a bright spot:
Such a little thing I must remember
Not to take for granted.
Me ,
Filling blanks on applications
Like a machine,
A broken record,
Checking my bank balance daily
To be sure I can afford
A box of Ramen.
Telling him
‘I’m so broke, baby’
As we curl up on the couch
And watch the cat nap.
He kicks in his slumber,
Chasing some imagined prey,
Breaking free and running
Far from this place.
To be loved and to be free.
I think that’s all this life is for.

A Twisted Dream: The Faceless Ones
Rarely do I recall my dreams. Only the most twisted linger long enough after I wake for me to record the strange details. I often question what events in my waking life must trigger my subconscious to create such intense, fascinating nightmares. What elements must be real. What creatures must lurk beneath a disguise of human flesh in broad daylight, what instinct senses them just enough to draw them into my mind as I sleep. But I digress. Here is a recent twisted dream.

The Whiskered War
A domestic drama; rather, you're witnessing a millennium-old conflict over the fate of the entire planet (and possibly just a smA titanic struggle between wits and strength has been raging in the shadows for millennia: The Great Nibble vs. The Purrsecution. The cats, the furry fighters, the fascists of the feline world, occupy one corner. In the other, mice make up the squeaky squad, the small militia. The reward? Domination over the entire world (and possibly an especially tasty cheese wheel).
