A Leap of Faith

Love

I've heard many quotes about love being a leap of faith, hoping that your SO is ready to catch you when you fall. Or just falling and falling deeper in love. Those are nice sentiments, but that's not what love is truly about. Not to me.

When you first meet your SO, it's like starting at the bottom of trail that leads up to a cliff. You get to know each other and start the hike together. On your hike you realize your starting to like them, so you continue on with your hike. The closer you get to the top, the deeper your feelings evolve. When you finally reach the edge of the cliff, you have to make a choice. Do you jump, or turn around and walk back down and part ways?

The thing is, every hike is different just like every cliff is too. One person's hike might be short and the cliff isnt that high, while another's hike might be long and their cliff is terrifying. Everyone has there own struggles to get to this point and everyone deals with their decision in different ways, but everyone who gets to this point has to make the same decision.

You make the jump not knowing when and if you will hit the bottom. It is the most exhilarating feeling in the world and you feel as if nothing could stop that feeling. But you do hit the bottom and you have to get back up. It is important that you and your SO make the jump together because if one of you reaches the bottom first, they wont know when you will catch up to them.They wont even know if their SO even made the jump. They then have to make the decision on whether to wait. The reality is not everyone will wait.

Now, we're at the point where both parties have made it to the bottom, dusted themselves off, and wonder where they go from there. Those who make it to this point have to make a huge decision. They look at the path ahead and realize it doesnt look the same as the first time around. The couple whose hike was initially short and easy might now be daunted by what's in front if them. It is up to both parties to decided to make the hike back up all over again so they can get the top and take the leap once more.

Love isn't easy. It's not simple. It's hard and often times, its messy. Not everyone is up for the amount of effort to takes to get back up to the top. A love that lasts is one that decided the jump together makes it worth the effort every single time.
