Burdens of the Heart
A heart so strong, yet burdened with pain
A soul that weeps, in pouring rain
A mind that wanders, with fear and worry
A heart that's broken, in a hurry
The weight of the world, upon her shoulders
Her heart so heavy, as she grows older
The tears she cries, no one ever sees
Her pain and sorrow, hidden with ease
A love once felt, now turned to dust
Her heart shattered, left with rust
The memories of love, now a burden to bear
Her heart so strong, yet filled with despair
The secrets she keeps, hidden away
Her loneliness, growing day by day
The tears she cries, in the dead of night
Her heart aching, with no end in sight
But through the pain, she finds her strength
Her heart so strong, she'll go to any length
To pick herself up, and face the day
To find the courage, to pave her way
With each step forward, she leaves behind
The heartbreaks and tears, that once confined
Her heart so strong, now filled with hope
Her burdens lifted, she learns to cope
Her fears and worries, no longer reign
Her heart so strong, she'll not be tamed
Her secret pains, no longer concealed
Her heart so strong, now healed
She learns to love, once again
Her heart so strong, she'll never bend
Her loneliness, a thing of the past
Her heart so strong, now built to last
A heart so strong, yet still so tender
Her love so pure, she'll always remember
The pain and heartbreaks, that once held her down
Her heart so strong, now wears a crown
For she's overcome, what once seemed impossible
Her heart so strong, now unstoppable
She's faced her fears, and conquered her worries
Her heart so strong, now tells her stories
Of love and loss, of tears and pain
Of burdens lifted, of secrets unchained
Of loneliness conquered, of fear dispelled
Her heart so strong, now free to excel
A heart so strong, a soul so bright
Her journey ahead, now full of light
For she's learned to love, with all her might
Her heart so strong, a true delight.

A Flower Song
Apparently the Aztecs, Toltecs, Chichimecs and other Mexica were crazy about poetry. Despite the book-burning, slaughter, and epidemics that characterized the early stages of the Spanish conquest of the empires of Mexico, some hundreds of poems from the height of their tradition come down to us in Classical Nahuatl, preserved by Nahua and Spanish scholars of the 16th century. One of the most famous poets, Nezahualcoyotl, was a sage-king who opposed the cult of human sacrifice associated with Tezcatlipoca, God of the Smoking Mirror, and favored Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent. Flowers and feathers were the favorite offering of the Plumed Serpent. Moreover, flowers and feathers are a metaphor for poetry. Individual words, scattered petals, the down of tropical birds. The temples of blood sacrifice could be transformed into temples of flower and song. A sublimated offering to the Heart of Earth and the Heart of Sky encapsulated in the Classical Nahuatl kenning for poetry: in xōchitl in cuīcatl, meaning, "the flower and the song."
