A Gift Served

His lessons honoured

He often meanders through his past memories,

Regretting nothing,

Every experience a lesson in his arsenal,

Treasured, savoured, honoured and mellowed.

**

He walks the shallows reliving the pain,

Knowing the sun will soon rise over his depression,

He wraps his tools in the precious wisdom gained,

Understanding life is for exquisite living.

**

Chances rule his decisions amidst any risk assessments,

He learnt at a young age there’s no wrong decisions,

Days will see the rain teem in tempest,

Until the daylight shines through in the end.

**

The darkening of his heart is not to be feared,

Because perfection is the whim of the naive,

Scorecards are wasted; revenge obsolete,

He lives for the moment, discarding yesterday.

**

The writing is on the wall of his heart,

Scoured with his secrets treasured in silence,

Chambers of his memory rarely see the light,

Hidden from his sensitivity while his courage rises.

**

Harmony rules his world,

Love gifts his heart with an extra beat,

Lust lingers deep within his mind,

As he remembers; smothered in glory.

**

Time rushes forward but he tides the current,

Standing tall, confident and brave,

Tomorrow will dawn with or without him,

Out of his control, so he’s learned to let go.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

It's so difficult but I really need to learn to accept and let go of things that are out of my control. Loved your poem!
