The past is but a blink of time.

A world away, yet the memory

lingers and lingers

like the stench of an onion stained

deep within my fingertips.

Peel away those vengeful layers

tainted with guiltless satisfaction,

to reveal the one.

The one whose unfaithful actions

awakened the demon.

Dormant, yet always lurking

near the surface.

*

Overwhelmed by white light,

a thunderous storm

surrounded me in a cloak of betrayal.

I disappeared in a cloud of rage.

The rest is an enigmatic blur.

It was 2am…

*

I reemerged to a sunlit sky,

fuel that feeds the dandelions.

Like them, you were the

beautiful weed

corrupting my joyous landscape.

You were the one…

But so was he…

*

Passionate bullet holes

were discovered

painted on a once vibrant shell.

You were the recipient,

and so was he.

*

I now sit in a new home,

within a society of bad men,

yearning for your touch.

That opportunity evaporated

when I pulled the trigger.

May you frolic with him

in heaven's green grass

forevermore...

While I rot in my self-made hell...

So powerful and that image of the stench of the onion clinging - brilliant. And the picture at the end added so much to the words. Like a slamming shut. Congratulations on Top Story 🤍

This is astoundingly good. I had to reread the beginning of this to let it sick in. So profound. "I reemerged to a sunlit sky, fuel that feeds the dandelions. Like them, you were the beautiful weed corrupting my joyous landscape." Those. Are. Wonderful. Lines. And that ending. Just wow.

  • So cleverly done... I got a shock when I read the last stanza! Beware of unbridled rage!

  • The continuing story of one of our best friend's sons.

  • Gosh, this was so intense, raw and emotional! I had to read it three times for the full effect of it to hit me with full force! Bloody brilliant!
