A Choice Between Bad and Bad
It's hard enough a powerful wizard's son can't do magic, but things get worse when the lad stumbles upon his father's archenemy.
Abandoned bones littered the aerie.
Bereft, exhausted, slumped in defeat,
Cursing his luck, Garv, the prentice wizard, sniffled and blubbered.
Disturbed from slumber, the dragon,
Eavesdropped.
Flushed, drooling snot, Garv whined, spoiling the
Glutted beast's left-over appetite.
Heedless of the
Invisible threat, lounging above, the young wizard moped.
"Jeers and japes I'll face without the eagle as my familiar bound!
Kismet made me Hochein Leistung's heir and yet I can do no magic."
Loathing immobilzed the dragon upon hearing the world's premier
Mage's name.
Numbly, the beast
Observed the lad pick up and recognize an iridescent dragon scale.
Paling,
Quivering,
Retreating,
Seeking escape, the wannabe wizard cast his eyes about in fear.
"Tell me, Boy, are you truly Dragonbane's son?"
"Uh, yes."
Vexed, the dragon roared and uncloaked, revealing its monstrous majesty.
"Why are you here, Wizardling?"
Xanthous, sulfurous wisps of smoke billowed, punctuating the question.
Yammering, Garv disclosed his failed quest.
Zugzwang-like, the choice, the dragon offered, "Be my familiar or die."
