Have writers block? Below is a list of 50 ideas to help you get started on your next poem.

1. Recall one of your favorite memories and write about how it shaped you to be who you are today.

2. Take your readers on a journey on what goes on inside your mind.

3. Write from the perspective of your favorite animal.

4. Take a life changing event and delve deep into the emotions and feelings you felt as it was happening and after.

5. Recall a moment where you might've been the bad guy in someone else's story.

6. Write about moments we typically take for granted.

7. Write from the perspective of an alien who knows nothing of Earth.

8. Take a mundane idea and make it into an abstract and enticing moment.

9. Think about a character in your favorite book and write about what you would have done if you were in their shoes.

10. Take inspiration from current events and politics.

11. Write from the perspective of somebody with opposing views and values than you.

12. Write from the perspective of a parent trying to take care of their kids or teaching them how to do something.

13. Write about the journey of an inanimate object. Example: what did that dollar bill go through to end up in your pocket?

14. Write a poem about the 7 deadly sins and which one(s) you feel you are most tempted by.

15. Grab a random book, turn to a random page, and the first sentence you see has to be the first line of the poem.

16. Write a poem for the first person on your Instagram feed that relates to the image they posted.

17. Write about the sounds around you.

18. Write a poem thanking someone important in your life.

19. Write to the version of yourself from the past and discuss the things you wished you knew when you were that age.

20. Write about how a certain song resonates with you.

21. Use all of the following words: vibrant, droplet, reflection, distress, discovery, whistle, walking, and tranquil in any order.

22. Would you choose to live near the beach or the mountains? City or country? Discuss why.

23. Which natural element would you choose to be able to control and why?

24. What have you always wondered about certain family members?

25. Write a poem of questions only.

26. Try to write a poem without using the word "the."

27. Describe the current weather and how it makes you feel.

28. Analyze your favorite quote.

29. Experiment with a style that your favorite poets like to use.

30. Look around and find somebody that you do not know much or anything about and make up a fake life story for them.

31. Ever travel? Compare a place you went to with the place you live in.

32. Talk about a person who used to be in your life that isn't in your life anymore.

33. Give advice to people who might need to hear it from someone who has had experience with the issue.

34. What does each color mean to you?

35. Remember a time you felt betrayed and write from both your perspective and the betrayer's perspective.

36. Discuss a moment where you felt safe and happy.

37. What inventions do you believe need to be made to make your life easier?

38. What are your favorite words and why?

39. Do you have any poems that you could write a sequel or a prequel to?

40. Compare what your life now is to what your life was like 5 years ago. Also consider writing about what you hope your life will be like 5 years in the future.

41. Take your phone number and find a word that has the same amount of letters as the number and make each sentence start with that word. (For instance, if my number had 555 in it, I would choose words like "start," "earth," and "death" that all have five letters and have each sentence start with one of those words.

42. What animal scares you and why?

43. Have any fears you can discuss?

44. Describe what the world would be like if everything was a different color. (if the sky was green, the grass was blue, etc.)

45. Write about a topic that you are very passionate about like racism, sexism, politics, religion, etc.

46. If you were to become a celebrity, what would it be for and how would you live your life?

47. Write a bad poem on purpose.

48. Write a poem that uses the phrase: "the sky has frozen."

49. Type a bunch of random letters and turn that into an acronym for a line in your poem.

50. Describe a task you found to be extremely difficult and how you were able to complete it anyway.
