The iPhone 15 Pro is currently being displayed for sale. It is advised to exercise caution when using this device for strenuous activities such as filming 4K videos. Numerous reports have surfaced online, indicating that the new flagship model, despite its overall excellence, tends to generate excessive heat that can cause physical discomfort. Notable individuals, including Ian Zelbo of 9to5Mac, have shared their experiences with this phenomenon, suggesting that it is indeed a genuine concern.

However, it is important to note that customer testimonials on Twitter alone do not provide sufficient data to draw definitive conclusions. Fortunately, Android Authority conducted comprehensive tests using a temperature gun, confirming that the issue is not a mere illusion. The iPhone 15 Pro does, in fact, exhibit significantly higher temperatures compared to other leading flagship phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

In more specific terms, the iPhone 15 Pro maintains a relatively normal temperature during basic activities like web browsing and watching YouTube videos. According to the data collected by Android Authority, running a GPU stress test raises the external temperature of the iPhone 15 Pro to 47.4 degrees Celsius, which is 3-6 degrees hotter than the aforementioned phones. Additionally, recording 4K/60FPS videos for 10 minutes raises the temperature to 43.7 degrees Celsius, while neither of the other two phones surpasses 40 degrees Celsius during the same task.

It is worth noting that these temperatures are considerably high, particularly for a device that is held in one's hand. Although the data does not indicate any instances of the phones overheating to the point of malfunction (at least not yet), they can certainly become uncomfortable to handle. It is advisable to exercise caution when recording 4K videos until Apple addresses this issue. There are widespread reports circulating regarding the overheating of the iPhone 15, which appears to be affecting all models. Measurements taken with an infrared camera have revealed temperatures as high as 116F. The issue has been reported by owners of all four iPhone 15 models, with some stating that their phones become too hot to hold without a case, including Ian Zelbo of 9to5Mac.

Some users, such as Zelbo, have reported the issue while charging their phones using a wired connection. One user reported that their iPhone 15 Pro Max became almost too hot to touch while fast charging, and that the left side rail and a portion of the back on the left side were the hottest areas, which aligns with the location of the logic board. The phone appeared to cool down significantly past 70% battery percentage, although it remained hot to the touch.

Other users have reported experiencing the same issue while not charging, even when using the phone for relatively undemanding tasks such as browsing social media. It is important to note that it is not uncommon for iPhones to experience heat during the initial 24-hour period following setup. This is particularly true when setting up from a previous phone or an iCloud backup, as there may be numerous background processes taking place, such as app reinstallation and re-indexing.

However, the current reports, including those from reviewers who were granted early access to the phones, indicate that the issue extends beyond the initial setup period. A Korean YouTuber, BullsLab, conducted tests using a Forward-Looking InfraRed (FLIR) camera, which provides a visual representation of detected temperatures. The model he used was capable of displaying the actual temperatures measured.

The top comment by jorn, which was liked by 10 people, stated that his wife's 15 Pro Max was initially warm upon receiving it. He suggested that this was likely due to post-migration background tasks and that the issue should resolve itself by the following day. This appears to have been the case.
