dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
10 Best Dog Breeds for Children and Families
Any breed can be a good family dog, and a dog from any breed could turn out to be an absolute disaster. Much of it is in the training and treatment of the dog, but there are also certain traits that make some breeds more likely to be quality family dogs than others.
Best Pet Hair Removers for Furry Pet Owners
Owning a furry cat or dog does come with a lot of perks. Not only is cuddling with them a fuzzy, cozy experience, but they look so adorable as a fluff of fur. And have you ever seen a furry dog running and jumping? They look like majestic mythical creatures running in a meadow of wild flowers. But the downside to these fuzzy fur balls is that they shed... a lot.

Anyone who has ever had a pet understands that they are so much more than just that, they are family to us. When we lose them, it is devastating. Whether it was a dog, a cat, a hamster, or a horse, or any other kind of an animal, they are always there for us. They rely on us to take care of them, feed them, walk them, love them, and we rely on them to be there for us too. Some people think that animals belong outside, that they are for working. Though those people respect animals, they do not understand what it is like to be attached to them.
Lilli AdamsPublished 7 years ago in PetlifeZack
Zachary is an 8 year old Yorkie-Poo. He also happens to be my best friend. He came to me when I was in the 8th grade when all of my older siblings were leaving for college. In my opinion, he couldn't have arrived at a better time. For me, middle school was not only a time of awkward bodily changes, it was also a time full of pain. Nobody truly wanted to be my friend. I also got cyber-bullied a lot. A 13-14 year old girl with body image/confidence issues already knows her flaws, she doesn't need anyone else to point them out for her. I was beginning to slip into a depression. My only friends, my siblings, were all gone or in the process of leaving... This left me with my parents. Mom? Dad? I love you, but at that age, it was UNTHINKABLE to publicly be friends with your parents. Now that I'm much older, I do consider my mom to be my human best friend. She's pretty great. Alright, back to the loser years. Zack came to me on a crisp, fall afternoon. My mother was in front of my school to pick me up as was custom. This time, however, my father, who happens to be the school superintendent (that helps with my friend problem... not.), escorted me to her car. I didn't mind, usually he gives me money for a pop! This time was different. When I got to the car, I see this little black fur ball looking up at me from the front seat. He was jumping and whimpering and licking the window. My heart soared. I loved him already.
Madeleine GravesPublished 7 years ago in PetlifeSo My Dogs are Complete Assholes...
I decided to sit down and write this piece because I'm at my wit's end with my dogs. Simply put, they're complete assholes. Both of them. To me and to each other. Let me give you their backstories before I tell you why they're jerks.

I don't know why today is different, but Momma seems really happy today. She tells me I'm a good boy. I am a good boy. I'm glad she noticed. But, oh! Today I am getting a lot more treats...

You know how you watch TV shows and movies about young couples and they FINALLY get their first apartment together? They’re making their first meal in their new home, unpacking and getting everything set up, and you’re secretly captivated it all. You start thinking about how excited you would be to be living with your significant other and how you would decorate your home and how everything would just be perfect! And of course maybe you think about your first pet together as a couple and how fun and easy it would be to train an animal because it always looks pretty easy on TV. So why wouldn’t it be right?

I've helped train quite a few service dogs in my time: A Golden Retriever named Gabby, a Lab mix named Pandi, a German Shepherd named Sera, a Collie mix named Pete, and now a Great Pyrenees puppy named Dyna.

My dad and I are watching soap operas with my mom in her living room. All of a sudden, we hear a knock on the door, moms’ dog begins to bark, so she puts her dog in the back yard. Momma unlocks the door to my Grannie holding something in her hands. I hear a soft whimper, excited, I spring up off the couch as my heart flutters. I look in her arms to see a tiny chiweenie. It was so tiny it almost looked like a mouse.

This is Leia, and of course she is a princess. She is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd, and probably a little bit of other breeds. I have never met a dog like her in my entire life. She has so much spirit and so much love to give that I can't fathom how I am worthy of her.
Karri RichardsonPublished 7 years ago in PetlifeIf Only I Could Tell You
If I could only tell you how much you've made my life better; all of those wet kisses that I used to wipe off I now cherish. How just walking you every day after school gave me time to think and relax during the bad times.

Since I was a child, there has always been a part of my heart dedicated to animals. Its a part that can't possibly be filled by anything else. Growing up, there were rarely any pet-free days. When there were, my parents were dealing with endless pleas for all types of critters. In my adult life I have only permanently acquired one animal: a cat called Connor. His entire body fit in my hands, as the spindly little runt of the litter. When I met him, I was visiting my uncle's farm prior to his funeral. Connor is the only thing I have from my uncle now, and the kitten was named for him as well. He has gone through many stages of life with me, and he has become my heart and soul. I am not a diehard cat person, but this one particular cat is a permanent part of me. I am also a practicing falconer, and keep hawks six months out of the year. The individual birds will not be permanent, but the entirety of my identity will always be defined by falconry and the birds will always have a role in my life. I currently have two extra cats; both came to me with identical sicknesses a year and a half apart. Minnie was the first, a little female that has failed to grow beyond 'kitten-collar' size. She has been with me for a long time and I love her truly; however, she still needs to find that one place where she belongs. The second is a male called Kirby. He has only been here for two months, and will likely be on his way before he reaches a third. Only a week or so prior to him, I had rehomed another kitten that I had plucked out of the highway's centerline, in the middle of heavy traffic.
