Why You Should Wake up Early

Even If You've Got Nowhere to Be

Some of you may be reading this saying to yourself, "Yeah right," "Next," "This girl's crazy." Yeah, yeah, I get it. I hear it enough from my own friends. But really, think about it, and this isn't just the farmer in me saying it—if you wake up early every morning, you're going to feel better about yourself.

If you wake up early, whether or not you have a job right now, or school hasn't started; maybe you're in full limbo mode where you have neither and you're currently freaking out, so you're saying to yourself, "Why should I wake up early? Life sucks, nothing is going right, all I want to do is snuggle up in bed and pretend everything's OK."

I get that. I was in your spot just a few weeks ago, and it sucked. So, that's why I started this habit of waking up, regardless what day it was, regardless if I had plans or not, regardless of how I felt, and I got the eff out of bed.

Why? Good question. Some of you may need more motivation than others, but the sole reason is for you, for your health, your well-being, and peace of mind. If you wake up earlier, you're bound to get more done, even if you're day consisted of doing nothing, you'll get up, you'll make your coffee, you'll scroll through your social media accounts, maybe you'll go to the store, get some grocery shopping done, head to the mall and spend money you don't have, but hey, you're up, your'e doing things, you're acting like a real human and contributing to the society we live in.

And then, if you don't, what'll happen? You wake up around noon, maybe two, for some of you experts in sleeping in. You missed breakfast, you missed half your day, you feel sluggish. Now you go on social media and you see all these famous Insta profiles doing things with their life, your friends, they're snapping their breakfasts, runs, and workouts, and you automatically feel lesser of a person all because you slept in; you didn't get a head start to your day like others, you feel even more depressed and want to curl right back into bed. No. Do. Not. Do. This.

I encourage you to try it. Try it for not one day, but three. Three days in a row, wake up at six, and if that's really pulling hair, then wake up at seven. Make your bed, drink some coffee or make a fruit smoothie, go for a walk, or take extra time to watch the news or blog before work. Take time for you and see how great you feel after these three days. You may create a real healthy habit, one that you thought you'd never enjoy or be capable of.

For those of you who may need a little extra loving push, try doing one of several of these things to make you actually look forward to the morning and getting out of bed earlier:

1. Lay out your workout clothes the night before (this will also motivate you to go to the gym more often than not!).

2. Plan a yummy breakfast, one that you may have pinned or you saw a recipe you wanted to try out but have yet to do—because you've been sleeping in maybe ;).

3. Get coffee at your favorite spot. Whether it's a local Mom & Pop shop, Starbucks, or the good ole' Dunkin' drive thru, make time for something that'll get you up and make your day just that much brighter.

Try one, try two, hey, be an overachiever and try all three in one morning...I know, I'm asking a lot.

But wake up early, crush it, and then do it again.
