Why Us Girls Keep Going Back to Tinder

Is this really the last time?

It's Monday night, you're 15 minutes into watching The Bachelor, and you've just turned to your phone to re-download Tinder. You say to yourself, this is the last time, one last go, maybe I will get lucky, Lauren B. found love on Tinder - why not me? You start to come up with excuses and validations to why you shouldn't feel bad for re-downloading the addictive swiping app, one being feeling lonely while watching The Bachelor (I feel you girl).

A couple swipes in, you've found a cute boy - check all the pictures to make sure it's actually him and not one of his hot friends you're matching with (it happens more than you think). Swipe right. No match. You feel bummed, but hey you just downloaded it right? Maybe he didn't come across your profile yet, swipe, swipe, swipe, all losers or not your type, I get it. Isn't it funny how we can be so judgmental and picky on a dating app that consists of left and right swipes that we actually hope ends in a DM? Odd.

A couple more swipes and you come across one of your X boyfriend's profiles, you feel embarrassed for a second thinking he probably already saw your profile too. You start thinking about just deleting it again, laugh about it, and pretend it that it didn't happen, all these thoughts go through a girl's head when swiping through Tinder, so...why do we do it? Over, and over, and over again? Here are five of the most common reasons we keep turning back to swipes, hoping it'll change our relationship status.

1. You had just broken up or ended a fling.

It's okay girl, rebounds are the best way to get over this kind of sad and depressing stage, Tinder is a fast and easy way to find your next boy crush. And guess what, even if you never met up or go past messaging through the app, just getting hit on or a brief compliment is a HUGE confidence booster, sometimes this is all we're looking for! Which eases us on to the second reason why we turn back to Tinder...

2. Confidence

It's all about feeling good about yourself, making sure you've still got it, you can get a guy out there - if you wanted.

Sometimes, life gets busy, and unlike your party animal friends you just don't make it out to the bars and clubs every weekend like they do. Finding a real, living, breathing guy is hard to do these days. Soooo you turn to social media dating apps like Tinder to boost your confidence, seeing what's out there, without actually, well, going out there.

3. You saw a hottie in public.

This one's going to sound a bit odd, but believe me it happens. You're in line at Chipotle, you're at the gym, heck you just started classes and you've got a looker that sits three seats behind you. You quickly re-download Tinder (carefully, so the guy in back of you can't see). You set your mileage to three miles and you start swiping like crazy to try to find him, hoping you can match and start chatting this way, because, in this day of age, chatting through a luminescent screen is more comfortable than face to face, we get it.

4. Your friends on it again, and you don't wanna be left out!

After you swore off the dating app for the fifth, maybe sixth, maybe...11th time? You're out to eat or over your friend's house for a movie and she's giggling and showing off all these got dudes she's matching with on Tinder. Talking about upcoming dates she's planned, following the sports studs Instagram accounts and snapping like crazy. You look down at your phone and, nada. Not even a text from mom. You're 24, stop looking for a text from mom. Well you don't want to be left out of the fun! Screw it you say, I know I said I would never give Tinder a try again, all the guys on there suck and it never leads to anything real, but hey this is all just fun and games in the moment, so what if I re-download it again and have a little fun browsing?

5. Last but not least, you're just down right desperate.

After either giving up on dating altogether, to trying to find a guy organically, you know - growing one of those little sponge boyfriends in a glass of water. Jk. But really, you've been set up by a friend, or a guy just didn't make it through the first couple of dates. Or hey, you get ghosted, it happens, to more girls and guys than you think. Many of us turn back to Tinder because we've lost hope yet again, hoping and praying some godlike guy has recently downloaded the app too, looking for a girl just like you, who knows, it's like gambling you never know what you're going to get, and it's addictive!
