Where Do You Get Your Advice about Life?

Don't underestimate the power of self help and benefiting from people's experiences

The term self-help has somehow become a topic of debate with many people, especially those critics who scoff at the idea of anyone besides the “experts” being allowed to influence our thoughts.

The truth is, sometimes the best advice and opinions you can get come from common everyday people like yourself. There’s nothing like the solid feedback you can get on a topic, from someone who has actually gone through or experienced whatever the topic of discussion happens to be.

Does that mean people should ignore or discard the wise advice and counseling that comes from a professional? Of course not, no more than they should automatically reject the point of views given by someone with first-hand knowledge of a situation.

No one has a monopoly on giving good advice.

Personally, I believe people should be open to the fact that good advice and wise decisions can come from just about anywhere. Even a total fool can manage to say something once or twice that makes absolute sense.

The best we can do when we have a problem or a concern that’s weighing on our minds, is to be willing to entertain different ideas on how to approach or resolve the issue.

There’s nothing wrong with plugging into an outside source for potential help or advice. Radio and television talk shows often touch on subjects that are common to us all, not to mention podcasts, and Youtube videos, and similar forms of media.

Nowadays, this is where you can find a lot of professionals sharing their expert opinions with the world. But this will also provide you access to thousands of “regular” people, all sharing various experiences, and giving advice based on what they have actually lived.

Finding and accepting good advice can be a tricky situation.

The internet is full of information coming at you from all directions so it’s no wonder we tend to feel overwhelmed by this information overload.

Needless to say, this makes it hard to find the really useful stuff; the information we can truly benefit from. Not because it doesn’t exist, but because it gets buried.

But as long as it's out there, you can find it and benefit. You just need to be cautious about accepting any and everything you read.

The road to self improvement is paved with good advice

Never underestimate the good advice that can come from someone who has experienced a lot in life. Your journey to self improvement is often reliant on the good advice you receive and follow in life.

That means taking the time to try to learn about and consider all the angles.

With most decisions, there are multiple factors involved in our decision making process. So be sure to consider your choices and options in advance, and rely on sound facts to help you make a decision.

Sometimes we end up making poor decisions, because we don't fully comprehend that our choices may be irreversible.

Listening to different points of view is equally important as the amount of consideration that you give to the advice you're hearing.

Final Thoughts

We already know that the bigger decisions in life have a way of creating chain reactions that can manage to impact our entire future. So you can imagine what something like that can do to a person's psyche.

Follow the best course of action, by always being open to at least listen to someone sharing advice that might prove helpful. Don't jump in or make decisions while wearing blinders.

Instead, consider all the factors involved in your decision making process, and be sure to do it in advance of actually making a decision.

Just like in real life (outside the internet), when people give us advice, we tend to listen, then pick and choose what applies to us.

That is exactly what you should do when reading and accepting online advice, no matter what the advice happens to be, and who it happens to be coming from.

In fact, MY ADVICE would be to proceed with caution, in everything you do in life. After all, it's better to be safe than sorry.
