Feeling Lost and Finding Direction Again

Feeling stuck or lost in life is something we all go through.

We become too comfortable in the jobs that slowly drain us. We become reliant on consistent pay checks, despite the tugging on our hearts for something more. Maybe we become lost in drugs and alcohol, or in other people. We go off course. We tell everyone that we're okay, that we have a plan, and they believe us. But it's like we're in the middle of the ocean in this dilapidated old boat, drifting aimlessly in circles and hoping that somehow we can find our way forward again.

It isn't difficult to become lost. None of us really know how we found ourselves on this green and blue planet spinning in the universe. The media feeds lies and fear down our throats daily, and there are millions of voices telling us how we should be spending our lives here on earth. It is incredibly difficult to distinguish our own wants and desires amidst all the chaos and fear.

Sometimes it can feel like our lives aren't even ours. Drowning in debt and responsibilities, we feel trapped. We are bored, tired, and the only thing to look forward to is getting drunk on Friday night to try and numb the dullness of our existence.

We get lost.

But, maybe that's not such a bad thing after all.

Becoming Found

The moment we discover that we are lost is the most profound and beautiful opportunity to truly understand what it is we DO want out of this life. When we are lost, insecure, depressed, and stagnant, this is a blaring signal to slow down, listen, and really feel our emotions. Our feelings don't lie to us. We are unhappy because our body, our soul, is telling us that there is so much more out there for us in this life. This is the catalyst for our growth.

We are not here to be unhappy and dissatisfied with our lives. We are here to explore. To love. To grow. To discover what it is that we love to do, and share that with the world.

When we become bored and stagnant, it is a sign that there is something we are doing that is not working for us anymore. We are not meant to work in boring and unfulfilling positions our entire lives. We were not born into this world to live a miserable life. We are meant to transcend all of these messy, muddy, and difficult circumstances that we find ourselves in and truly discover the beauty and creativity that is already inside of us.

When we feel lost, this is the time to look deep within, connect with, and ask ourselves what it is we truly want in this life.

What do I truly love to do?

What am I good at?

What makes me happy?

What do I want out of life?

These are all questions we need to ask ourselves. We are all born with natural inclinations, talents, and hobbies. We all have dreams in our hearts. These are not accidental. They are ours for a reason. The things we naturally enjoy doing are the things we are meant to do.

This is not to say that the path towards what we do love will not be difficult. There is much hard work to be done, especially if we've abandoned our gifts for a long time. But this work will fulfill us much more than work we do that is not in alignment with our heart's true desires and happiness.

The second we make even the tiniest step towards our happiness and what we truly want, the next step becomes less muddy and more clear. If we take it one step at a time, instead of becoming overwhelmed with questions and what if's, the journey will unfold and the life we truly want will be closer to becoming our reality.

You already know the direction to set your boat in. You have always known. You might be tired and broken down. Your boat might have a bunch of holes in it. The journey ahead seems long and impossible, and maybe you're incredibly far behind where you had intended. But truthfully, you are exactly where you need to be right now. You have never been more ready.

Set sail.
